Leslie & Beulah Greer – Founders

Leslie & Beulah Greer, Founders

In 2001, my husband Leslie and I, fueled by determination, became parent activists after learning that our daughter would not graduate with her high school class. Despite the setback of her SLD diagnosis and the failure to pass all state tests, we believed that SLD students should have the opportunity to graduate. Our daughter just wanted to march with her class, and we were determined to make that happen.

We addressed the Mississippi Department of Education with a solid argument. MDE agreed but let the school district decide. Unfortunately for our daughter and family, the Holmes County School Board disagreed.

We accepted God’s ministering to our hearts after much sorrow and irritation with the Holmes County School System and Board. We began to recover and seek forgiveness for those who, in our perspective, did not understand how to handle situations.

My husband Leslie was a “strong tower” who urged me to move forward and let God guide me through our painful struggles, especially as a mother. We are grateful and humble, seeing ourselves as God’s instrument.

We eventually discovered that our family’s fate was destiny. We vowed to help others then, but the school district didn’t help Takila.

As desperate parents, we found strength in each other and in our shared mission. Together, we created the Community Students Learning Center (CSLC) to prevent others from enduring the suffering and disgust our family experienced. This sense of community and support is what drives us forward.

The Community Students Learning Center works well with the Holmes County School Board, Superintendent, teachers, and staff. I even had the chance to serve as a team monitor for the MDE Office of Special Education, traveling the state to educate parents about their rights and laws involving their special needs children.

Thanks to God, our initiative has blossomed into a non-profit organization that is now helping countless families. What started as a mission to help at-risk students who failed state-mandated tests has evolved into a comprehensive platform offering a wide range of programs and services. This growth is a testament to the power of our cause and the hope it brings to families in need.

We look forward to serving you and your family as we pursue our God-given purpose of “Helping Others to Improve Their Quality of Life” (our motto).
